This unisex, adult sized, richly cabled hat was inspired by the Pembroke Vest that I created for Petite Purls first issue. The central cable from the vest pattern, flanked by rope cables is worked in four panels around the circumference of the hat.
My favorite part of creating cabled hats is playing with how the cables resolve in the crown. Cable stitches have a way of creating something new and beautiful as they come together through decreases. This hat is no exception, with the cables forming an 8 pointed star at the top.
Sizes
Adult sizes S[M, L]. Shown in size M.

16[17, 18] inch circumference at brim relaxed, will stretch to fit up to 20[22, 23] inches

Yarn: Yarn Love Charlotte Bront Worsted [100% Certified Organic Merino Wool; 280 yards/256 meters per 4 ounce/113 gram ball];
Steel Blue; 1 skein

Pattern Notes
This cabled hat is worked from the bottom up, in the round.
There are separate charts for each size. Be sure to work from the correct chart.
Abbreviations
C1/2B - slip 1 st onto cable needle and hold it in back of the work, k2 from left needle, k1 from cable needle.

Instructions
Body of Hat
Cast on 104[112, 120] sts. Place 26[28, 30] sts on each of 4 needles. Join, being careful not to twist, and mark the beginning of the round.
Working in the round, work Rnds 1-28 of the cable pattern (see appropriate size chart) one time.
Work cable pattern Rnds 1-19 one more time.
Crown
Continuing to work in the round, work Rnds 1-22[24, 26] of crown decrease pattern (see appropriate size chart) one time.
Finishing
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail long enough to weave in.
Using the tapestry needle, thread the tail through the remaining 8 sts and pull the tail to the inside of hat. Tug on the tail to close the top of the hat.
Weave in all ends.
Block by soaking your hat in cool water for 15 minutes. Remove any excess water by wrapping the hat in a towel.
Lay flat to dry shaping the hat to the dimensions listed at the beginning of the pattern.
